"Going through early menopause at the age of 38 was one of the most confusing phases of my life! It all started when my husband and I were trying to have a second child. At one point I thought I might be pregnant so I visited my OB/GYN, but when she told me I was actually going through early menopause it was not the news I was expecting to hear. There was no history of early menopause in my family so it came as a shock. I started getting hot flashes and feeling angry constantly which are part of the symptoms of early menopause. I was unable to accept the fact that I could no longer get pregnant so I went to a fertility doctor to discuss any possible options. I was told that having a child was out of the question, and so I wanted to at least still get my period. I was prescribed birth control pills in the hopes of increasing my estrogen levels, but was disappointed after my period completely stopped coming. At that point I was really sad and went through some hard times. It took me two years to finally accept my fate and cope with this new stage of my life.
Soon after I did several screening exams only to find out that I had osteoporosis as a result of my early menopause. I started to feel some pain in my back and in my joints especially in the morning. Although I was advised by my doctor that these were not symptoms of Osteoporosis, this is what I was feeling. Since I was diagnosed with this condition I had to start exercising more often and changed my diet. I started exercising once a day for 30 minutes and I began eating foods with more Calcium. I advise anyone who has Osteoporosis to see their doctor often and make sure to understand how to manage the condition with the right diet, exercise and medications."
